As many of you know Albert C. Barnes was an American chemist and art collector who founded the Barnes Foundation, an educational institution based on his private collection of art. The collection is strongly represented by paintings from Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Modernist masters, as well as furniture and crafted objects. Barnes was known as an eccentric figure who had a passion for educating the underprivileged. Tragically, Barnes died on July 24, 1951, in an automobile crash. This is an article regarding the new Barnes Foundation Building that opened in Logan Square, Philadelphia.
