Today marks the 17th Anniversary of the terror attacks of 9/11, now also known as “Patriot Day” in the US.
Family and friends of those who died gathered near the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan, as they do every year, to pause, reflect and pay tribute to the nearly 3000 lives that were lost that day; to its survivors and selfless heroes.
Since then, new edifications have been made in and around the area where the Twin Towers once stood. World Trade Center (WTC) One, Three, Four and Seven are now open and occupied.
This past weekend, the new WTC Cortlandt St. Subway Station began running again. Thousands of new residents have moved to the location as well, helping with the rebirth and revival of the place.

The hope is that people will take some comfort in being surrounded by new signs of strength at the site.
We can all pay tribute, in solidarity with the victim’s families and friends by observing moments of silence at any of the following times observed as part of the official 9/11 anniversary ceremony held at Ground Zero: 8:46 a.m.; 9:03 a.m; 9:37 a.m.; 9:59 a.m.; 10:03 a.m.; 10:28 a.m.; and/or by posting an appropriate picture or remembrance on social media or your company’s website in honor of the many innocent victims, survivors & heroes.
Let us also remember the relief efforts of artists such as Peter Max to help all those who suffered. As a New York resident, he was profoundly affected by the attacks. “I tried to do as much as I could to help the victims and raise money in support of them” – stated the artist.
At the time, Max proceeded to create a series of 9/11 art pieces. Proceeds from the sale were donated to the Survivor Relief Fund. Separately, the artist created portraits of the 356 firefighters who lost their lives during the rescue mission; an American flag individually wrapped the 356 paintings when presented to each firefighter’s family.
